Depending on their coat type see Generations Explained Goldendoodles generally require fair to high coat maintenance. The majority of Goldendoodles will require professional coat care at least at some point in their lives, some need only very occasional clipping whilst others need more regular visits to the groomers, but what tends to happen is that the dogs that shed the least require the greatest amount of attention to their coats in order to prevent mats from forming. This is because all ‘non shedding’ dogs do actually moult but the dead coat stays on the dog and so needs to be groomed out otherwise it will form mats. The most difficult time to maintain the coat tends to be when the puppy coat is being shed at around 8 months of age and this is often the time that people will decide that a trip to the groomer is in order. Here at Kizzabella we have concentrated on breeding F1 and F1b puppies. We find that these 2 generation produce the most consistant coat and personality types which can become very unpredictable in further generations.

The modern Poodle is a medium sized breed, standing over 15 inches tall and weighing between 40 and 55 pounds at maturity. Standard Poodles have a trim, athletic build with a somewhat square frame and long legs. Poodles have dark, oval shaped eyes and an intelligent, alert expression. The Poodle’s muzzle is long and tapered with a dark nose while the ears are long, folding close to the head, and set at or below eye level. The most identifiable physical characteristic of the Poodle is its long, curly coat. Though it might look otherwise, the Poodle’s coat is a single not a double coat, but it is very dense. Poodles come in a wide range of colors including black, white, brown, gray, silver, apricot, cream, red, and sable as well as some parti color patterns. In terms of temperament, the Poodle is a friendly and gentle breed though it can develop a vain or arrogant air if you aren’t careful. Poodles are very intelligent so they require plenty of mental stimulation in addition to daily exercise. Speaking of coats, both dogs are categorized as either F1 or F1B based on the amount of hair and amount of shedding that will occur. The main difference is that F1’s will shed some and F1B’s shed very little, if at all. The predictability of a breed comes from selection for traits that are desirable and away from traits that are undesirable. When a breed standard or type is set, the animals within that breed have less heterozygosity than do animals in a random population. The Goldendoodle is nothing more than an expensive mongrel.
